My Transformative Journey at The Other Art Fair in New York 2024

In a world where art often treads traditional paths and caters to an elite few, The Other Art Fair stands as a beacon of innovation and inclusivity, set against the backdrop of one of the greatest cities in the world—New York. Embracing a philosophy that art should be accessible and enjoyed without constraint, this dynamic fair challenges the norms with a blend of affordable, original artworks and the vibrant presence of 120 independent artists. This year, I had the privilege of participating, adding my unique creations to an electrifying mix of immersive installations, performances, DJs, and lively social interactions in the bustling heart of New York. At The Faire, art truly is for everyone, and my experience there was nothing short of transformative.

At The Other Art Fair, I introduced a compelling new series of small, round aluminum prints, which quickly became everyone's favorite. These pieces, notable for their affordability and visual impact, utilize the shimmer of aluminum to enhance the fluid representation of water and dreams within each print. The sleek, modern aesthetic of the material, combined with its durable, high-quality finish, ensures each artwork stands out as a contemporary addition to any collection.

My colorful, dreamy artworks are designed to transform any living space, blending seamlessly into a variety of interior styles. The frameless design and clean edges of each piece ensure that they complement modern aesthetics, from minimalist to maximalist decors. Attendees expressed enthusiasm about the potential of these pieces to act as stunning centerpieces or harmonious additions, appreciating their versatility and the way they could integrate into and enhance their personal spaces. This feedback reaffirmed the decorative appeal and adaptability of my artworks in diverse interior settings.

My artworks are produced in very limited editions, with only two to six copies per piece, ensuring each work remains exclusive and highly collectible. This exclusivity is particularly appealing to discerning collectors seeking unique, investment-worthy art. By utilizing innovative techniques and vibrant colors, I create artworks that stand out in any collection. Each piece is signed and dated, emphasizing its status as a collectible item that could appreciate in value over time. By maintaining the rarity of each work, I enhance its potential as both a unique gift and a valuable addition to any art collection.

The Other Art Fair provided a vibrant platform for engaging with fellow artists and collectors, enriching my experience and artistic journey. One particularly memorable interaction was with a fellow photographer who instantly connected with my concept of capturing dreams on camera. His understanding and appreciation of my work affirmed the depth and relatability of my artistic vision.

These exchanges with peers and audience members have been instrumental in refining my approach to art. Feedback from collectors, who were fascinated by the thematic and visual aspects of my work, helped me gauge which elements resonated most. This direct engagement has not only deepened my understanding of my audience but also inspired adjustments in my technique and presentation to better connect with those who view my art. Such interactions underscore the importance of community and feedback in the continual evolution of my artistic practice.

Reflecting on my time at The Other Art Fair in New York, I am filled with gratitude for the opportunity to showcase my work and connect with such a dynamic art community. This experience has not only expanded my reach but also enriched my artistic perspective. Each conversation, each piece of feedback, and each new connection has fueled my passion and dedication to my craft. As I look forward to exploring more opportunities in the U.S. market, particularly in the vibrant city of LA, I am eager to continue this journey of growth and discovery. The Other Art Fairs' clear impact is evident, making my future in art as bright and promising as the works I create.

"PROTEAN VISIONS" AT PHOTO LONDON 2023

Julia Flit, a highly acclaimed contemporary art photographer represented by Litehouse Gallery, showcased their exceptional works at the eighth edition of Photo London 2023. This prestigious event unfolded at the iconic Somerset House in London, hosting an impressive lineup of over 100 international exhibitors. Photo London served as a global art fair, captivating art enthusiasts and collectors alike, providing a gateway to explore and acquire the finest photographic masterpieces from diverse eras and perspectives.

Among the remarkable displays was Julia Flit's Protean Visions series, a metamorphic collection of twelve images that were showcased during the exhibition. This series explores the mutable nature of water and light, drawing inspiration from the ancient Greek myth of Proteus, the prophetic and shapeshifting God of elusive sea-change. Flit's vivid imagery pays homage to the concept of liquid metamorphosis, capturing the playful whimsy of the ocean through her artistic lens. With Protean Visions, Julia Flit invites viewers to immerse themselves in a world of enchantment and embrace the ever-changing beauty found in the depths of water and light.

Flit plays with the elemental fluidity of light and water, unearthing the subjective and reflecting it through the looking-glass. Her subjects flow through the visual landscape with weightless ease, as the artist’s imagination opens entryways and passages into the unseen.

Of her own work, the artist says it revolves around the concept of ‘timelessness’; according to her ‘there is no young or old water. It’s an arcane concept of the human mind, the closest concept to infinity we can materialise in our thoughts’. She believes water is a medium of infinite reflections and perceptions, and her goal as an artist is to document its choreography of light.

PART OF FLAIR PROJECT COLLABORATES WITH GEM GENEVE

Jewellery insider Katerina Perez has collaborated with leading independent trade show GemGenève to debut the works of FLAIR community artists in November 2021.

FLAIR @flairproject_official is an online gallery and independent multi-media artist community for those who create unique objects and works inspired by jewellery and gemstones. Members are carefully curated by Russian-born Paris-based key opinion leader (KOL), journalist and brand consultant, Katerina Perez, who is internationally recognised for her commitment to and knowledge of precious jewellery.

Creatives are hand-picked to join the FLAIR community because of their ability to demonstrate originality, coupled with a strong DNA throughout their work and creative flair. Artists are tasked with preparing original work in their preferred medium, such as painting, sculpture, photography, haute couture or digital art, with the condition being that jewellery and/or gemstones must feature as the central character. Each member of FLAIR is chosen based on their skill and unique style, rather than their international recognition or fame, with the goal of introducing the world to “hidden gems” in their respective artistic fields.

Julia Flit, the co-founder of London jewellery agency Gem Kreatives, exhibited two artprints.

The two pieces in question are part of Flit’s Dreams Reflections collection. The images are striking, abstract stories that hold the gaze and feature beautiful pearls submerged in water.

Says Flit: “Jewellery is a token of your present, a witness of your past and a kind of kaleidoscope through which you can view your future. If you think about it, jewels are timeless; they bring generations of people together. A shared future and a sense of nostalgia runs through them at the same time.”

The decision to shoot the pearls underwater is down to Flit’s “fascination” with light refracting in water. You intuitively perceive water as a sort of liquid diamond, Flit notes. “Also, water has tremendous healing potential for the human mind, body and spirit. Water can benefit people thanks to its therapeutic qualities. For thousands of years, it has been known to refresh the body, relax the mind and cure ailments big and small.”

In short, water is elemental, and a perfect companion to the sort of jewels that have an almost magical quality to them.

Paintings, photos and haute couture can be purchased exclusively via the FLAIR Instagram platform – @flairproject_official – which was specifically chosen to facilitate a broader community of those who appreciate art, jewellery, gemmology and design.
